No one likes a spoiled surprise, especially in instances where you accidentally find an invitation to your own surprise party. Unfortunately for Chevrolet, we may have learned one of its surprises regarding the 2019 Chevy Camaro sooner than intended.
Recently, AutoGuide discovered a document that Chevrolet filed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regarding its 2019 lineup. This card lists the Chevrolet Camaro with a 7-speed manual transmission option. The current model year Corvette can be equipped with a 7-speed manual, so this reference would likely be the same transmission that would become available for the next Camaro.
Along with the 7-speed manual option, the document also lists the current 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic, but not the 10-speed automatic. In addition, under the engine column, only the 6.2-liter V8 is listed. This could mean a variety of things.
- The CARB document is not complete
- The ZL1 will not be offered for the 2019 model year
- The 10-speed gearbox will not be an option.
Of course, when AutoGuide reached out to GM for a comment, the spokesperson said they could not comment on any future product speculation. Along with the possibility of new powertrain combinations, the updated 2019 Camaro will get refreshed styling and likely some equipment shuffling among the trims and packages.
Whatever is in store for the 2019 Camaro, we’ll be excited to see it when it arrives later this year at Stanley Chevrolet.
